About the Illustrator Laura Hemsley Growing up, Laura's favorite subject in school was always art. She never lost that interest, and as a young mother of three boys, she began hand-painting Christmas balls to bring in extra income so that she could stay at home to raise her sons. Today, her painting has turned into a full-time career. Among her many specialties are ornaments and glassware featuring Chesapeake Bay themes and other hand-painted motifs. Her work is well-known in the Chesapeake Bay area and beyond, and she accepts customized artwork from many clients. Her latest endeavor in 2006 was the illustration of The Tree With No Lights. Laura resides on Kent Island, Maryland where the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay is a daily inspiration.
